We have initiated development on fqircd 3.0, which we are basing on Bahamut 1.8.6.
This will probably be our last IRCD based on Bahamut, as we are looking for a better and more actively developed ircd with native SSL and IPv6 support.

We’ll hopefully keep you posted on our progress. Remember to subscribe to our svn-updates list (see the download from SVN section for more info) and follow our latest changes.

Tonight we switched from CVS to SVN. You might have noticed that our CVS has been down for some months, this was due to Mark moving. We now have SVN up on a faster box along with ViewVC for easy browsing of our repositories.

We have also decided to base our next ircd branch on ircd-ratbox, more info about that later.

Also, Mark is in the progress of trying to get our services package to work with ircd-hybrid, but since it is only TS3 and ircd-hybrid uses TS6 it will need major rewrite of services (and perhaps ircd-hybrid aswell).

We soon will begin testing of ircd-hybrid! The main reason for this is that Bahamut development seems to have stalled, and our development team hasn’t been very active lately, and we hope to benefit from the much more active development that hybrid has.
Another reason is that hybrid also has IPv6 support, which we have been struggling with for Bahamut.

If everything works out, we will try to modularize all FreeQuest specific functions and release them as modules for ircd-hybrid. We might need to supply patches aswell.

Comments and suggestions about this can be left in #FreeQuest, and all suggestions are much appreciated.

We have a few things in mind with the new homepage:
* It has to be easily translated into different languages
* There is to be services integration (Log on with your FQ nick)
* Set custom settings using your services password. (The language settings should be transferred)
* RSS feeds with news
* Trouble ticket system
* Live statistics about the network
* Graphic server map, dynamicly generated
* Some contect could preferrably be edited through some kind of CMS, but that’s not necessary
* Coded in PHP (4.x) and using MySQL as a backend (4.0-4.1)

Feel like contributing? Again, we cannot give you anything else than our gratitude and proper credits. We’ll get it done ourselfes, eventually. We just would like to see it done before the end of 2010, because that’s how long it’s going to take if we do it by ourselfes

Well, that sounds a bit like Uncle Sam is trying to recruit you, doesn’t it? We are looking for people that want to contribute to what we do. We can’t offer anything more than our gratitude and proper credit for the work you do, so if you’re lookin’ to get paid you should stop reading right here.

First, we’re looking for translaters. We’d like to have services translated into as many languages as possible. We’ve done a great deal on the Swedish translations, but there’s plenty more left to do. Ideas on what we need to implement in services is also welcome, along with ideas for our ircd. Ultimately, we’re also looking for someone to redesign our entire website structure (*.freequest.net). More about that in a later post.

Some of you may think there are things we’ll never implement in our ircd. That’s not entirely true; we’ll be glad to implement new features, it just doesn’t mean we’re going to use them on FreeQuest. If you come up with clean patches for using IPv6, HostServ, Halfops or anything like that, we may very well implement it. As long as it is possible to turn the features off and it doesnt impact on normal operations, we might implement it. And, if it’s good, we may start using it on FreeQuest aswell.

Yes, we know we haven’t been much active lately, neither coding, on irc or writing here. We just simply don’t have anything new to share with you. As usual, all comments and suggestions are welcome!
